Göteborg (Gothenburg) is Sweden's second largest city with close to
500.000 inhabitants (750.000 urban area). The city is located on the
mouth of Göta River on the West Coast of Southern Sweden and is
blessed with a beautiful archipelago, as well as 'Liseberg', the
largest amusement park in Scandinavia and the newly opened
'Universeum', Sweden's national science discovery centre.
The Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre is adjacent to the city
centre, which is primarily characterised by "The Avenue"
(Kungsportsavenyn). It is a long street with minimal traffic that
constitutes a natural meeting place for both tourists and the local
population. At one end is the Museum of Arts, awarded three stars in
the Michelin Museum Guide, and the main Concert Hall of the Göteborg
Symphony Orchestra. At the other end is the lively harbour with a
modern Opera house. Walking along The Avenue, you will find a
vibrating city life and a variety of large and small shops, quality
restaurants, theatres, small and large concert arrangements, movie
theatres, pubs and more.
